This third chapter of ‘The Terror’ anthology series, which began in 2018 with an adaptation of Dan Simmons’ novel, draws its inspiration from Victor LaValle’s novel, ‘The Devil in Silver’. It tells the story of Pepper, a working-class man from Queens who finds himself unjustly admitted to the New Hyde psychiatric hospital. According to El Séptimo Arte, Pepper’s plight is due to a combination of bad luck and a bad temper. Within the institution, filled with individuals society would rather forget, he must contend with conspiring patients, medical professionals harbouring dark secrets, and potentially "even the Devil himself" to secure his freedom. To escape, he must uncover what feeds on the pain residing within the hospital’s walls and confront his own internal struggles. The series is developed in collaboration with LaValle himself and Christopher Cantwell, who also serves as writer and showrunner.
